From The FPHL Department of Player Safety
Binghamton, NY – The FPHL Department of Player Safety today have announced the following suspensions.
Watertown Wolves Whalen, SUSPENDED
Watertown forward Andrew Whalen has been suspended for One Game as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 297 in Port Huron, MI on Friday, March 7th. FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated, "Mr. Whalen took exception to being checked hard. The referee correctly assessed an interference penalty for the body check, but Mr. Whalen decided to exact revenge by jumping his opponent who was on the ice and delivering a barrage of punches to an unwilling and unable opponent. This is an aggressor and he will be suspended for ONE (1) GAME."
Danbury Hat Tricks Hullaby, SUSPENDED
Danbury forward Dylan Hullaby has been suspended for One Game as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 298 in Danbury, CT on Friday, March 7th. FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated, "Mr. Hullaby appeared interested in engaging his opponent throughout his shift. This event culminated in Mr. Hullaby delivering a big check to his opponent then initiating a fight. His opponent did not drop his gloves nor did he have any interest in fighting. Mr.Hullaby went after his prone opponent and delivered a series of unprovoked punches. This is an aggressor penalty and Mr. Hullaby is suspended for ONE (1) GAME."
Motor City Rockers Smith, SUSPENDED
Motor City forward Avery Smith has been suspended for Two Games as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 301 in Fraser, MI on Friday, March 7th. FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated, "Mr. Smith enters an altercation and goes after an opponent who is being restrained by the linesman. He punches his opponent at least 10 times and his opponent is unable to defend himself. This is Mr. Smith's second aggressor penalty this season and as such, will be suspended for TWO (2) GAMES.”
Athens Rock Lobsters Virgili, SUSPENDED
Athens forward Filip Virgili has been suspended for One Game as a result from his actions during FPHL Game No. 301 in Fraser, MI on Friday, March 7th. FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated, "Mr. Virgili pulled and tugged on his opponent's hair while on the ice during this melee. This is unsportsmanlike conduct and according to the officials report, it was egregious enough to warrant a match penalty. Mr. Virgili is suspended for ONE (1) GAME."
Note: Athens defenseman Joseph Colatarci's Aggressor Game Misconduct that he was assessed has been Rescinded by the Director of Player Safety. FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson stated, "I do not view Mr. Colatarci's actions as being an aggressor. He would not relent when he was being restrained by the linesman, but he did not punish any opponent with multiple punches. This is considered 'Continuing an altercation' and was deserving of the Game Misconduct but he will not be suspended."
The FPHL is a Single-A Minor Professional hockey league operating in its 15th season during 2024-25.
